Kingsbury Toys
The Wilkins Toy Company was founded by James Wilkins in Keene, New Hampshire in 1890 and was purchased by Harry Kingsbury in 1895. Kingsbury changed the company name to Kingsbury Manufacturing Company in 1919. The Wilkins toy line had various vehicle types made of cast iron and pressed steel. Some of these models transitioned into Kingsburys with the company name change. Kingsbury introduced a new line of vehicles in 1926 that were some of the best toy models ever produced. This new line included much larger vehicles, some almost 3 foot long! I’m sure the successful Buddy L line of toys help inspire this move. In 1927 they marketed new “Deluxe Custom Built Cars, featuring the Town Car and the Sport Sedan”. Three years later they announced that all their passenger cars were now being designed and built with "Bodies by Fisher," just like real cars of today. Kingsbury continued to manufacture toys up to the beginning of World War II. Once the war was over they sold their tooling to the Keystone Manufacturing Company of Boston, Massachusetts.
