Sturditoy Toys
The Pressed Metal Company of Pawtucket, Rhode Island introduced a line of pressed steel trucks and a steam shovel in 1926 under the brand of Sturditoy. Sturditoy trucks were advertised as having "True Lines of Modern Motor Fire Apparatus and Modern Business Trucks" essentially duplicating the real trucks on the road of this time period. Sturditoys were constructed in the same scale and quality of their competitors, Buddy L, Keystone, etc. They had rubber tires with Firestone branding and much of the line had non-functional headlights affixed to the radiator with a removable license plate in between. Some of the earlier and economy model trucks did not have this feature. In addition to Keystone, Sturditoy also employed the use of a diverse color pallete. Sturditoy reportedly had up to 25 models in their lineup. Unfortunately, Sturditoy stopped production in 1933. Like many other businesses they weren’t able to overcome the effects of the Depression and its impact on sales volume.
